Walt Disney Company looks for Eisner's successor

Xinhuanet

LOS ANGELES -- The Board of Directors of US entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. has chosen a search firm to help it find a successor for Disney CEO Michael Eisner, the company announced Monday.

"The Disney board has selected Heidrick & Struggles to assist it with the CEO selection process," Disney Board Chairman George Mitchell said in a statement.

"As previously stated, board members expect to complete the process and announce a successor by June 2005, and Disney CEO Michael Eisner and the board will work diligently to assure a smooth and effective transition," he said.

Eisner, who survived a vociferous shareholders revolt earlier this year, announced last month that he intended to retire when his contract expired in September 2006.

But 11 days later, the board said it expected to replace Eisnerby June -- 15 months earlier than the CEO indicated he would step down.

Former Disney board members Roy Disney, nephew of the late WaltDisney, and former board member Stanley Gold helped recruit Eisnerin 1984, but in recent months they both have been calling for his ouster. Disney and Gold wanted Eisner out within six months, rather than two years.
