The Disneyland Report > Disney News > Comedian Chris Rock selected to host 2005 Academy Awards Disney NewsComedian Chris Rock selected to host 2005 Academy AwardsChris Rock has been selected to host the Academy Awards next year. This news follows the recent announcement that Academy Awards veteran producer Gil Gates would once again lead the broadcast in 2005. Chris Rock, who is known for his often acerbic and provocative comic style, is not a stranger to hosting awards ceremonies; the comedian has previously hosted the MTV Video Music Awards. The annual awards ceremony has only been hosted by four other people in the last ten years: Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, and David Letterman. The 2005 Academy Awards ceremony will be on Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The Academy Awards moved to the Kodak theater in 2002; the ceremony had previously been held at the Shrine Theater. The show will be broadcast by ABC, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company.
