Christopher Reeve dies at age 52

Actor advocated spinal cord injury research

Actor Christopher Reeve, who starred in several movies as the character "Superman," died of heart failure on Sunday. He was 52.

Reeve became severely paralyzed following a 1995 horseback riding accident. Since then, he became a popular advocate for research on spinal cord injuries, lobbying for more funding and awareness.

After undergoing years of continued therapy, Reeve regained limited limb movements, but he was still confined to his wheelchair.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Reeve starred in many movies, including a film adaptation of Ira Levin's play "Deathtrap" and the TV special "The Muppets Go To Hollywood," but he is most famous for playing "Superman" in the eponymous 1978 movie.

He will long be remembered not just for that role, but also for advancing awareness for spinal cord injury research.
