On Saturday night, Hurricane Jeanne was just miles off the coast of Florida, and high winds and large waves battered coastal areas as thousands evacuated Florida for safer ground. Hurricane Jeanne is expected to tear a path all the way across Central Florida, according to a projected path map offered by the National Weather Service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). According to the NOAA, Hurricane Jeanne has been moving westward at about 14 miles per hour with 115 miles per hour winds and may turn toward the northwest in the next 24 hours. Hurricane Jeanne is currently a Category 3 hurricane and may strengthen as it passes over warmer water near Florida. Florida's east coast is still under a hurricane warning from the National Hurricane Center, as are the northwestern Bahamas. Hurricane Jeanne is on track to pass over the Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida, and visitors are encouraged to check the Walt Disney World website for updates on the current weather situation at Walt Disney World. No closures or modified schedule due to Hurricane Jeanne at Walt Disney World have been announced as of Saturday night. Walt Disney World hurricane damage has been reported previously from Hurricane Charley and Hurricane Frances.
