Hurricane Ivan Update

The Walt Disney World Resort is in the clear from Hurricane Ivan, but other states face danger as Ivan makes landfall as a Category 3 or higher hurricane

The deadly Hurricane Ivan, which has already ravaged many Caribbean islands, has passed Central Florida and Walt Disney World, but the hurricane is now about to hit the greater New Orleans area in what could be an extremely devastating disaster.

Thousands have been evacuated as the National Weather Service has issued a warning indicating, "Dangerous Hurricane Ivan Bearing down on Northern Gulf Coast." The National Weather Service called Hurricane Ivan "extremely dangerous," with strong winds and hurricane conditions expected within 24 hours.

"Maximum sustained winds are near 135 mph, with higher gusts. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible prior to landfall, but Ivan is expected to make landfall as a major hurricane, Category 3 or higher," the National Weather Service warns.

The major fear now is flooding in New Orleans, a city that is already below sea level. The deluge of rain that accompanies Hurricane Ivan could prove to be extremely dangerous for New Orleans.

At least two deaths related to Hurricane Ivan have been reported already in the United States.

The projected path of Hurricane Ivan has the storm moving north through Alabama and Tennessee in the next few days. The Hurricane Ivan projected path map provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows that dangerous weather conditions will continue, as Hurricane Ivan will proceed north through a couple more states.

The Walt Disney World Resort area weather forecast continues to call for "fair" weather, with forecasts for isolated and scattered thunderstorms.
