FamilyFun Magazine to Team with DisneyHand to Grant $50,000 in Honor
of Families That Volunteer Together
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Recognizing the strong bonds that are created
when family members volunteer together, and acknowledging a growing
interest on the part of its readers, FamilyFun is launching FAMILYFUN
VOLUNTEERS, a program that encourages families to give back - together.
Teaming up with DisneyHand, worldwide outreach for The Walt Disney Company,
along with ABC Family, and the Points of Light Foundation, the magazine
is offering cash grants totaling $50,000 that families can win for their
favorite charities.
"Volunteering can be a fun and meaningful way for families to
spend time together," said Alix Kennedy, vice president and editorial
director, FamilyFun. "We are eager to share the many creative ways
FamilyFun readers are incorporating volunteerism into their busy lives
in the hopes that we can inspire others to take action."
Beginning September 15, families can apply online at FamilyFun.com
(http://www.familyfun.com/volunteers) for a grant for the charity of
their choice. The Points of Light Foundation, a non-profit organization
dedicated to promoting volunteerism, will assist FamilyFun's editors
in judging the entries. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of
creativity, impact on the community and effect on the family. In order
to enter, a family must have at least two members volunteering together:
one at least 18 years old and one less than 18. Submissions will be
accepted online until January 3, 2005.
DisneyHand will donate $5,000 to the charity choices of five families
and $1,000 to the charity choices of twenty-five families for a total
of $50,000. The charities they designate must be either a 501(c)(3)
or a public school. Winners and the charities of their choice will be
announced in the May issue of FamilyFun and a selection of their stories
will be featured in upcoming issues of the magazine. All entrants will
receive a FamilyFun Volunteers certificate and winners will receive
a FamilyFun prize package including a selection of FamilyFun books and
kits.
A promotional partnership with ABC Family will help call attention
to FamilyFun Volunteers through on-air announcements in conjunction
with the cable network's "Here To Volunteer" community outreach
initiative.
