The Disneyland Report > Disney News > Hurricane Ivan update: Hurricane Ivan expected to travel along Florida's west coast, sparing central Florida from eye of storm Disney NewsHurricane Ivan updateHurricane Ivan expected to travel along Florida's west coast, sparing central Florida from eye of stormAs Hurricane Ivan once again became a Category 5 storm and comes close to hitting western Cuba, its project path continues to be just off the west coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, and the eye of Hurricane Ivan will probably not hit central Florida and the Walt Disney World Resort, according to a five-day predicted path for the hurricane from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. However, this news and projected path for Hurricane Ivan from the NOAA certainly does not say that central Florida, the Orlando area, and the Walt Disney World Resort will not get some of the effects of Hurricane Ivan. Much of Florida could still be hit by high winds and heavy rain. After two major hurricanes, Hurricane Charley and Hurricane Frances, the ground in Florida is already very saturated with water, and the big problem, should Hurricane Ivan dump more rain on the state, would be flooding, as more water falls from the sky and has nowhere to go since the ground is already soaked with water. Should Hurricane Ivan bring much devastation to Florida, it would be the third major hurricane to hit the state in a month. According to the NOAA prediction, the storm may eventually curve eastward,
so central Florida and the Walt Disney World Resort may not be out of
the clear just yet. Residents and tourists continue to watch the projected
path of Hurricane Ivan to see if it will cross central Florida and the
Walt Disney World area. Return to Disney News. |
