The Disneyland Report > Disney News > From Athens to Norris Center: Michael Phelps, Lenny Krayzelburg and Ian Crocker to visit Chicago for Disney's Swim with the Stars tour Disney NewsFrom Athens to Norris CenterBy Leslie Hague Olympic swimming superstar Michael Phelps will come to St. Charles on Tuesday for an exhibition performance. Phelps and American swimming teammates Ian Crocker and Lenny Krayzelburg will perform at the John B. Norris Recreational Center in St. Charles on Tuesday as part of a Disney "Swim with the Stars" tour. Only 800 tickets will be sold for the show, which is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 and are on a first-come, first-served basis. A second show might be added, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., depending on the sales for the first show. The tickets will be sold from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday at the center, which is on the St. Charles East High School campus at 1050 Dunham Road. There will be a limit of four tickets sold to a person. Children under 3 years old will be admitted free if they sit on a parent's lap during the performance. During the shows on the 11-city tour, the swimmers have a question and answer period and explain swimming techniques to the audience. It also includes a relay race with the Olympians and guests, according to a press release. If the first few shows on the promotional tour are any indication, people will need to get there early. The same show was performed on Sunday in Marietta, Ga. There was so much interest that people started showing up in line on Friday for the Sunday show, said Mike McDuffie, the recreation coordinator at the Mountain View Aquatic Center. People drove from as far as Arkansas and camped out in RVs to wait for tickets - and that show wasn't advertised locally, McDuffie said. Phelps became a household name as one of the stars of the Olympic Games this summer, winning eight medals, six gold and two bronze, at the age of 19. Phelps' teammates Crocker and Krayzelburg are gold medalists as well. All three were on the Americans' 2004 gold medal winning 4 x 400 meter relay. Phelps made headlines when he gave his spot in the final to Crocker, who won a gold, a silver and a bronze in Athens. Krayzelburg won three gold medals in 2000 and was listed as one of People magazine's 50 most beautiful people that year. Return to Disney News. |
