Walt Disney World Hurricane Frances damage and closure updates

Walt Disney World survived Hurricane Frances with less damage than expected, likely because Hurricane Frances had weakened a bit by the time it reached Central Florida.

According to reports, only the roof of a backstage structure experienced damage on the Walt Disney World property due to Hurricane Frances. The damage was apparently minor. Besides that, there was the expected downed trees, branches, and leaves around the Walt Disney World Resort due to heavy winds and stormy weather from Hurricane Frances.

However, the Walt Disney World Resort has suffered economically from a Labor Day weekend that had all of its theme parks closed for two days and two of its theme parks closed for a third day due to preparations for Hurricane Frances. Labor Day weekend is traditionally a very busy time for the theme parks because it is a three-day weekend and it marks the end of summer.

Although Walt Disney World hotels were very full to near-capacity due to Floridians from coastal area evacuating from Hurricane Frances to inland areas and deciding to stop at Walt Disney World, the Walt Disney World park closures will certainly have a major effect for the company.

All Walt Disney World Resort parks are expected to reopen with normal operation on Tuesday.
