Pixar's new film Cars premieres at Lowe's Motor Speedway
Disney and Pixar's latest film, Cars, premiered at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC on May 26. The event modified the racetrack into a stadium with four giant screens to present the film, and fans and members of the media showed up to see celebrities and the new animated production.
Among those showing up on the red carpet, director John Lasseter and his wife Nancy. Voice talents from the film including Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, and Larry the Cable Guy were on hand. Real-life versions of the film's characters also cruised down the celebrity line.
In addition to the Hollywood celebrities, racing stars Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Richard Petty arrived at the Cars premiere.
Along with comedian Larry the Cable Guy doing a preshow and performances by Chuck Berry, Diamond Rio, and Brad Paisley was the film itself, shown on four movie screens specially constructed for the premiere, collectively creating the most surface area for a single showing of a film.
Cars is about a hotshot racecar, Lighting McQueen, (voiced by Owen Wilson) who gets lost on his way crossing the country to a major race in California. Stuck in a small town, he slowly warms up to the residents including Doc Hudson (voiced by Paul Newman), Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy), and Sally (voiced by Bonnie Hunt) and learns that there's more to life than winning the race.
Other voice talents include Cheech Marin, George Carlin, and John Ratzenberger, who has voiced a character in every Pixar full-length film.
Cars officially opens nationwide on June 9.
