Walt Disney Pictures promoting Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest using MySpace website
Walt Disney Pictures is taking advantage of the online networking craze by promoting its upcoming film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on MySpace, the online profile website.
Taking advantage of the marketing opportunity provided by this large audience of generally young individuals who are tech savvy and seen to be more likely to be interested in exciting blockbuster summer films, Disney is inviting MySpace members to add the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” promotional page as a friend on the website for the chance to win prizes.
On Friday, April 28, Disney will select one winner from the list of people who are friends with the Pirates of the Caribbean webpage. This randomly selected winner will be the first to view a new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest trailer and will be responsible for distributing the content via blogs, e-mail, and word-of-mouth.
The main prize, however, is that the winner will be invited to attend a press junket in Los Angeles around the time of the world premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. The winner will serve as a press correspondent for MySpace and interview cast members and celebrities involved with the film, which is a sequel to 2003’s summer smash hit Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. The principle cast members, including Johnny Depp, who plays lead character Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightly, are likely to be present at that event.
Other smaller prizes will be awarded to other MySpace users for joining the group as well as for distributing online Pirates of the Caribbean promotional materials.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest starring Johnny Depp, Keira Knightly, and Orlando Bloom will open nationwide on July 7, 2006. A third, yet unnamed, Pirates of the Caribbean film also starring Johnny Depp and others will be released in 2007, though it was filmed concurrently with Dead Man’s Chest.
The Pirates of the Caribbean films are based on the ride of the same name at Disneyland and other Disney theme parks worldwide. The Pirates of the Caribbean rides at Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom park are undergoing major refurbishments to incorporate new elements inspired by the films, including a Johnny Depp audio-animatronic.
