Make Mine Music, Disney's eighth full-length animated feature, released 60 years ago today
Walt Disney’s full-length animated musical feature Make Mine Music was released 60 years ago today.
Busy with helping to make propaganda films for World War II, Disney continued putting out full-length films by packaging a number of short animated features together. This package feature included 10 musical segments.
Make Mine Music premiered on April 20, 1946 in New York City. It was Disney's eighth full-length animated feature. Artists including Dinah Shore, Benny Goodman, and The Andrews Sisters provided music talent. The film is reminiscent of Fantasia in that it features animation set to music.
One segment, Blue Bayou, features Debussy’s famous composition “Claire de Lune” and was originally slated to be part of Fantasia but was later cut during production.
Other segments include The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met (about a talented whale who could sing opera), Johnny Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnett (about two hats falling in love), Casey at the Bat (an animation of the classic poem), and Peter and the Wolf (an animation of the eponymous musical piece by Prokofiev).
Celebrate the 60th anniversary of the release of Make Mine Music by watching this great collection of classic Disney animation!
