The Disneyland Report > Disney News > Chicken Little to be presented in Disney Digital 3D, marks new turn in Disney animation Disney NewsChicken Little to be presented in Disney Digital 3D, marks new turn in Disney animationWalt Disney Pictures has big hopes for its upcoming 3-D computer animated film Chicken Little.
To be released November 4, 2005, Chicken Little is a comedy about what happens after Chicken Little’s discovery that the sky really is falling after already calling a false alarm. Having abandoned its traditional 2-D hand-drawn animation technique, the Disney studio is now focusing on computer animated films, viewing the form as more popular and profitable from an audience perspective. In addition to being Disney’s first full-length, completely computer animated film independent of Pixar, Chicken Little is also being presented in select theaters in select cities in Disney Digital 3-D format. Using two projectors and having theatergoers don special 3-D glasses, the image on the screen will appear to have more depth and certain elements will appear to jump out from the screen, close enough to grab. Although admission to the 3-D screenings will be more expensive due to costs associated with upgrading the projectors for this kind of presentation, Disney hopes its new Disney Digital 3D format will revitalize the film industry and spur audiences to return to see films in the theater in an age of inexpensive and convenient DVD rentals. Disney has several more 3-D computer animated films in line after Chicken Little. Chicken Little will be the first animated film to be presented in Disney Digital 3-D format.
