Hurricane Wilma approaches Florida, Walt Disney World to close all theme parks, water parks

As the deadly Hurricane Wilma approaches Florida, the Walt Disney World Resort has announced that all four of its theme parks, its two operating water parks, Downtown Disney, and Disney’s Wide World of Sports will be closed on Monday, October 24.

The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach will be closed Monday October 24 due to the heavy winds and rain created by Hurricane Wilma.

The Walt Disney World Resort may reopen one or more of its theme parks after Monday depending on weather conditions to accommodate guests and visitors currently at or arriving at the resort.

The Walt Disney World Resort made the decision to close all of its parks after consulting with the National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center, and other weather and emergency officials.

The Walt Disney World hotels will remain open during the week, and all guests staying at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground were placed in other resort hotels. Resort hotel guests will be kept entertained with

Hurricane Wilma is expected to pass more than 100 miles south of Walt Disney World, but the resort is still taking precautions for intense storm effects.

Walt Disney World has previously closed its theme parks due to the threat of hurricanes. During last year’s busy hurricane season, Walt Disney World closed its theme parks and / or water parks during major hurricanes such as Hurricane Jeane or Hurricane Frances.
