Hong Kong Disneyland celebrates one month of operation, has already welcomed thousands

Exactly one month after the curtain rose on Disney's first theme park in China in a spectacular grand opening celebration, Hong Kong Disneyland is proving that its magic is here to stay - and guests are loving every moment of it.

Since September 12, Hong Kong Disneyland has welcomed tens of thousands of guests from around the world eager to experience the park's immersive world of fun, fantasy and adventure and two Disney-themed hotels.

"Over the past month, Hong Kong Disneyland has played host to a myriad of magical moments for thousands of guests including the first marriage proposal on grand opening day and several large family reunions spanning four generations. Hong Kong Disneyland is fast becoming a destination that unites people and creates a lifetime of happy memories," said Don Robinson, Group Managing Director, Hong Kong Disneyland.

The smiling faces that can be seen spinning in the Mad Hatters Tea Cups, cruisin' down the exotic Jungle River or captivated by The Golden Mickeys Broadway-style show are reflected in Hong Kong Disneyland's guest surveys - a daily practice that encourages feedback from guests to ensure the most magical experience possible.

"Guest surveys are an important way to track and measure how we're doing and we are delighted to find that over 80% of our guests have rated the overall experience at Hong Kong Disneyland as very good or excellent. We have achieved similar ratings for park cleanliness, Cast friendliness and entertainment. Similarly, over 80% of our hotel guests have rated a positive satisfaction and more than half said they intend to make a return visit," said Don.

Hong Kong Disneyland has also been flooded with letters of appreciation from guests hailing from as far and wide as Virginia, USA and Xiamen, China. In one letter, a mother of two, wrote: "Do you know how excited my son was about taking pictures with Mickey? I'm going to tell my friends that Disneyland really is a place where dreams do come true!"

Based on guest feedback over the past month, Hong Kong Disneyland has fine-tuned the park's operations to ensure the most magical experience possible for all guests. On busier days, for example, the food and beverage operations team sets up additional tables and chairs to cater for larger crowds, while extra food carts are available for quick snacks on the go.

And as guests familiarize themselves with the "No Wait" Fast Pass system, queues are now shorter meaning quicker access to some of Hong Kong Disneyland's signature rides such as Space Mountain and Winnie the Pooh.

Hong Kong Disneyland Favorites

When it comes to dining, Klaus Mager, Director of Food and Beverage shares the top favorites amongst guests.

"We've had an overwhelming response for the unique east-meets-west Char Siew burger and chicken wings at the Starliner diner in Tomorrowland, while the Dim Sum basket is a top menu item at the Royal Banquet Hall in Fantasyland. The most popular snacks from our food carts include caramel popcorn and soya chicken legs."

Guests are also proving a healthy appetite for shopping and are eager to take home a piece of the Disney magic after a full day's adventure at the park. Phyllis Wong, Director of Merchandise at Hong Kong Disneyland cites a trend in guests purchasing plush toys, T-shirts and jewelry.

"In addition to gifts and souvenirs, it is encouraging to see our guests getting into the spirit of Hong Kong Disneyland by dressing up as their favorite Disney characters. Every day we welcome miniature princesses, Mickeys and Minnies - I've even spotted a look alike Winnie the Pooh!" said Phyllis.

Tickets to the Disney Magic

Guests are choosing to purchase park tickets both online and at the Hong Kong Disneyland Ticket Express Station at Hong Kong Station. The most significant trend, however, is for guests to simply arrive at the park to purchase same day tickets at the entrance, which is also a convenient way of visiting the park.

"We encourage spontaneous visits to Hong Kong Disneyland and have tickets available for those guests who decide to enjoy an spur-of-the-moment day at Hong Kong Disneyland," said Roy Tan Hardy, vice president, sales and marketing.

Magical Vacations at the 400-room Victorian-style Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel or the 600-room Tinseltown inspired Disney's Hollywood Hotel are also just a phone call away at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel Reservation Center at (852) 1830-830.

Both hotels offer guests an exciting opportunity to extend their immersive experience beyond the park and stay in the heart of the magic against a dramatic backdrop of lush mountains and vistas of the South China Sea.
