Girl dies after collapse at Typhoon Lagoon water park in Walt Disney World

A 12-year-old girl visiting the Typhoon Lagoon water park at Walt Disney World collapsed and later died Thursday.

Autopsy results released Friday showed that the girl, Jerra Kirby, did not experience trauma, but the cause of death remained to be determined, according to the Orlando Sentinel. However, an investigator said that the death did not appear to be related to the water park.

Jerra Kirby was visiting the Typhoon Lagoon water park with her family when she collapsed at the park’s wave pool in the early evening. She was taken to a local hospital and died soon after.

This is the third major health incident at Walt Disney World this summer. Two months ago, a 4-year-old child died on Mission: Space at Epcot, and a girl remains hospitalized after falling ill last month during a ride on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney-MGM Studios. Both rides were said to have been operating normally.

Walt Disney World has two operating water parks, and various injuries have been reported in the past at the Disney water parks, often from people slipping and experiencing minor injuries.
