Dozens hurt in roller coaster accident at Disney’s California Adventure at Disneyland Resort

Collision on California Screamin' roller coaster sends 15 to hospital

The Disneyland Report

A collision between two vehicles on a roller coaster at Disney’s California Adventure theme park at the Disneyland Resort has sent over a dozen park visitors to the hospital.

Fifteen park visitors were taken for treatment after two roller coaster vehicles on the California Screamin’ ride collided at the loading station Friday at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Times.

Dozens more were treated and released at the scene, some with complaints of neck and back pain, according to another spokesperson.

The California Screamin’ accident occurred after a malfunction allowed a roller coaster train to enter the loading station while another train was still unloading passengers.

An Anaheim spokesperson said that the train did not appear to be moving at a high speed and that the ride vehicles did not appear to be severely damaged.

The accident brought over a hundred firefighters to Disney’s California Adventure park, which is located next to Disneyland. The rescue workers helped passengers get off the ride.

The Disneyland Resort and state officials are investigating the accident.

The Disney’s California Adventure accident is one of several in recent years at the Disneyland Resort.

In March, the Storybook Land Canal Boats ride at Disneyland was closed briefly after a child’s hand were crushed between a boat and the loading dock.

In September of 2003, the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster at Disneyland was closed after a derailment accident that killed one park visitor.

California Screamin’, which began operating with Disney’s California Adventure when it first opened in 2001, is one of the most popular attractions at the Disneyland Resort. The roller coaster features a launch start that propels riders forward through hills and dips and a loop that sends riders upside down.
