“Turtle Talk with Crush” opened on Friday, July 15, 2005 in the “Disney Animation” attraction at Disney’s California Adventure’s Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Part of Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration, the new attraction features the sea turtle Crush, from Pixar’s Finding Nemo. The popular Finding Nemo turtle interacts with guests in his unique surfer-dude accent and laid-back personality. He’ll hold completely unscripted, real-time conversations with guests.” In Turtle Talk with Crush, young guests are encouraged to sit on the ground in front of a tank window, or a screen, where they can ask Crush questions. Adults have theater seats in the back half of the exhibit to watch the personalized conversations. With a combination of digital projection and voice-activated computer animation, Crush from Finding Nemo can directly speak to anyone in the theater in the new attraction at Disney’s California Adventure. Turtle Talk with Crush originally debuted at the Living Seas pavilion at Epcot in Walt Disney World. It was brought to the Disneyland Resort due to its great popularity. On July 15, Crush’s first swimming competitor arrived to celebrate his arrival at Disneyland. Amanda Beard, a 1996 Olympic gold medalist in swimming, helped with the premiere of the attraction. Sporting a Mickey Mouse tank top, Beard playfully challenged Crush as being a “really fast” swimmer. Said Rasulo, “You have to see it to believe it.” The ceremony to open Turtle Talk with Crush at the Disney Animation attraction also featured an exciting announcement from the Disneyland Resort: Long-closed Disneyland attraction The Submarine Voyage would reopen as Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The old attraction will be reopened with new projection special effects to bring the Finding Nemo characters to life in the Submarine Lagoon in Tomorrowland. Soon after, the walls around the currently drained Submarine Lagoon began advertising the new Finding Nemo submarine ride with characters from the movie. Return to Disney News.
