Disneyland's 50th anniversary to be celebrated July 17, 2005

The Walt Disney Company’s commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Disneyland, Walt Disney’s first theme park, began earlier this year on May 5 as the “Happiest Celebration on Earth,” but Disneyland’s 50th anniversary is actually July 17, 2005.

Although the planned events are less extravagant than the excitement of May 5, Disneyland’s actual birthday of July 17 promises to offer nostalgic moments of Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Two days in advance, on July 15, the popular Space Mountain roller coaster attraction will reopen after a two-year refurbishment. (Space Mountain reopens as part of Disneyland’s 50th anniversary celebration) In addition, a new attraction at Disney’s California Adventure called Turtle Talk with Crush features the Finding Nemo character in an interactive theater experience.

On July 17, Mickey Mouse will join Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner and CEO-elect Bob Iger for a morning ceremony in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Later in the afternoon, Walt Disney’s opening day speech will be broadcast parkwide.

The festive day will be celebrated with cupcakes and a special gift to guests.
