The Disneyland Report > Disney News > Thurl Ravenscroft, voice of Tony the Tiger, major Disney and Disneyland voice actor, dies at age 91 Disney NewsThurl Ravenscroft, voice of Tony the Tiger, major Disney and Disneyland voice actor, dies at age 91Thurl Ravenscroft, best known as the voice of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes mascot Tony the Tiger, died in Fullerton on Sunday from prostate cancer. He was 91. Ravenscroft created Tony the Tiger's catchphrase roar, "Grrrrreeeat!" which has now become closely linked with the cereal and cartoon character on Frosted Flakes television commercials. Ravenscroft is also famous for voicing numerous characters in Disney films as well as in the Disney theme parks, primarily well-known attractions at Disneyland. He voiced the German parrot Fritz in Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland, as well as characters in Pirates of the Caribbean. In the classic Haunted Mansion attraction, Ravenscroft's voice can be heard as one of the singing busts, whose voices were provided by the Mellomen singing group. Ravenscroft's image actually appears on one of the singing busts and is often mistaken for the visage of Walt Disney. Thurl Ravenscroft also provided voices for characters in several Disney films, including "Alice in Wonderland," "Mary Poppins," "Lady and the Tramp," and "Cinderella." Ravenscroft has been recording commercials for Kellog's Frosted Flakes since 1952. He made his last recording as Tony the Tiger last fall. Ravenscroft's wife, June, died in 1999.
