The Disneyland Report > Disney News > FamilyFun.com calls for entries for Video Game of the Year Awards, part of Toy of the Year Program Disney NewsFamilyFun site calls for entries for Video Game of the Year Awards, part of Toy of the Year ProgramFamilyFun.com today kicked-off its Second Annual FamilyFun.com Video Game of the Year Awards, a sister program to FamilyFun magazine's renowned T.O.Y. Awards. The awards are designed to showcase E and E10+ rated games released in 2005 that kids and parents rate as most fun and must have. Information and entry forms are available to game publishers now at www.familyfun.com/videogameawards and submissions will be accepted on an ongoing basis until September 30, 2005. Winners will be announced in November. The awards will be divided by hand-held and console categories, in addition to age sub-categories for games suitable for 6-9 years old and 10-12 years old. Games made for all major platforms will be accepted. New for 2005, the awards program features year-round game reviews from parents and kids that provide detailed information specific to each game, helping parents make informed purchase decisions. "We are honored that the overwhelming majority of game publishers in the industry entered our awards competition in its first year," said Emily Smith, vice president, FamilyFun.com. "This program complements the gaming industry's efforts to help parents make informed decisions when purchasing games for their kids, such as the recently announced E10+ ratings category. Our program is a resource that builds on the kid-testing tradition of FamilyFun's T.O.Y. program, which has become a trusted source for parents looking for the hottest new toys." The Award's evaluation process will be handled by independent market research firm Digital Research, Inc., the research firm that leads testing for the FamilyFun T.O.Y. Digital Research, Inc. will select a panel of kids to screen, test and rank the games on a 100-point scale. New this year is a parents section of the questionnaire that will allow parents to add their opinions for each title, which will then be weighted in the final rating. The top three scoring games in each category will be named finalists and the top scoring game in each category will be the winner. Referred to by the Wall Street Journal as the "Oscars of the toy industry," FamilyFun magazine's annual T.O.Y. Awards have the unique advantage of being tested and selected by kids. Digital Research, Inc. administers the program. The winners are chosen after thousands of hours of play testing and voting by several hundred children at child care centers across the country. The finalists and winners are featured in the November issue of FamilyFun magazine and on FamilyFun.com. Over the years, several memorable toys such as Rescue Heroes(TM) and Tickle Me Elmo(TM) were launched into the holiday retail spotlight after being announced as winners of the T.O.Y. Awards. FamilyFun.com launched the inaugural Video Game of the Year awards in 2004 and top honors were taken by THQ's "Power Rangers: Dino Thunder" and Activision's "Shrek 2."
