ESPN and Editorial Televisa launch ESPN Deportes, Spanish-language version of ESPN The Magazine

As a demonstration of ESPN's ongoing commitment to Hispanic sports fans in the U.S., ESPN, Inc., in association with Editorial Televisa, will publish a monthly Spanish-language edition of ESPN The Magazine beginning later this year. The magazine, which will bear the "ESPN Deportes" name, will be available on newsstands and via subscription. The announcement was made today by George Bodenheimer, president of ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports, and by Eduardo Michelsen, chief executive officer, Editorial Televisa.

The Spanish-language edition of ESPN The Magazine will offer a mix of original content targeted to the interests of U.S. Hispanics, along with material from the English-language edition of The Magazine and contributions from Editorial Televisa. Editorial is expected to include coverage of Major League Baseball, as well as Caribbean and Mexican League baseball; boxing; NFL; Latin American, European, and international soccer; auto racing; action sports; and more. A preview edition is planned for May. Editorial Televisa will publish and distribute the magazine. Editorial content, ad sales, and subscription sales will be a collaborative effort between ESPN, Inc. and Editorial Televisa.

"A Spanish-language edition of ESPN The Magazine is a response to advertisers and readers who have been calling for a regularly published sports magazine targeted to U.S. Hispanics," said Bodenheimer. "It is also a natural extension of our efforts to serve Hispanic sports fans and it complements our other ESPN Deportes-branded initiatives, including television, radio, internet, and wireless."

Added Michelsen: "The ESPN brand transcends conventional sports journalism. The magazine will offer Hispanic fans a dynamic and authoritative look at the world of sports not found in newspapers and other magazines. Furthermore, the magazine will provide advertisers a respected and credible environment to reach, in Spanish, a very attractive and vibrant Hispanic consumer."
