The application, planned for launch later this year on major U.S. wireless carriers, will be a mobile extension of ConsumerReports®, which will give consumers who subscribe complete access to exclusive unbiased ratings and recommendations of products and services in several categories. The mobile version will help provide consumers on the go with the facts they need to make informed purchasing decisions, especially at critical point-of-sale locations. "We think that the independent, unbiased information of Consumer Reports® and Starwave's established mobile business infrastructure are a strong combination for a new mobile service," said Larry Shapiro, executive vice president and general manager of Starwave Mobile. "The planned application is a great example of how we are expanding our mobile offerings into new types of applications for a variety of distinct consumer audiences." "This new application will further enable Consumer Reports to empower consumers at the point of purchase, wherever they go," said John Sateja, Vice President, Publishing, at Consumers Union, nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports and ConsumerReports.org. "We're confident that consumers' ability to access our expert, independent information when and where they are making purchasing decisions will improve their shopping experience."
