The Disneyland Report > Disney News > Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland at Disneyland opens this week Disney NewsBuzz Lightyear Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland at Disneyland opens this weekBy The Disneyland Report Staff Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, the newest ride at Disneyland in two years, officially opens in Tomorrowland this Thursday, March 17, 2005. The new attraction, based on the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin attraction at Walt Disney World, is a close copy of the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters attraction at Tokyo Disneyland, has already opened to glowing reviews in the last couple of weeks during soft openings as well as cast member previews. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is an interactive "dark ride" that allows guests to blast laser guns at targets along the show scenes. Points are recorded each time a target is hit, making the attraction popular for multiple rides. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster will feature Disney's FastPass to allow guests to minimize wait times. The new Tomorrowland attraction features various characters from the Disney and Pixar "Toy Story" films, including Buzz Lightyear, the evil Emperor Zurg, and the little green men. The new Buzz Lightyear ride occupies the former CircleVision 360 building, which was at one point used as the queue for the now-defunct Rocket Rods attraction. The opening of the new attraction represents a new start for Disneyland's Tomorrowland, which last received a major refurbishment in 1998 but has had several attractions close in recent years. Next up to open in Tomorrowland is the much anticipated return of the classic roller coaster Space Mountain. It was recently announced that the Space Mountain reopening date will be July 15, 2005. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is also another part of Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration this year, which begins May 5, 2005. All the Disney theme parks around the world will participate in this "Happiest Celebration on Earth." For the celebration, Disneyland will also premiere a new fireworks
show entitled "Remember
Dreams Come True" and
the new "Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams" in addition
to Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and the re-Imagineered Space Mountain. Return to Disney News.
