Walt Disney World water park Typhoon Lagoon reopens with Crush 'n'
Gusher water coaster
Returning from its seasonal refurbishment, Typhoon Lagoon water park
at Walt Disney World reopened on Sunday, March 13, with a new attraction,
the Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster.
The Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster, a unique variation on the waterslide
concept, uses high powered water jets to propel riders on rafts up inclines
and hills, in addition to the typical drops found on regular waterslides.
Guests ride in two-person rafts.
The "water coaster" concept was first developed and used
in the "Master Blaster" attraction at Schlitterbahn Waterpark
Resort. The idea was originally developed by NBGS International, Inc,
which designs water rides.
The Crush 'n' Gusher has three waterslides: The Pineapple Plunger,
the Coconut Crusher, and the Banana Blaster. Each Crush 'n' Gusher waterslide
has its own combination of drops and lifts, but all three splash down
in the same lagoon, newly constructed for the water coaster.
The design of the new area continues the theme of the Typhoon Lagoon
water park. The area for the Crush 'n' Gusher slides is supposedly an
abandoned fruit processing plant that was partially destroyed during
the great typhoon that created the rest of the water park..
Typhoon Lagoon's latest addition is the first in new attractions that
the Walt Disney World Resort parks will be receiving this year as part
of Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, "The Happiest Celebration
on Earth."
Other attractions to open soon include the Cinderellabration show at
the Magic Kingdom, Soarin' at The Land pavilion in Epcot, the Lights,
Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show at Disney-MGM Studios, and Lucky
the Dinosaur character and the Expedition Everest roller coaster at
Disney's Animal Kingdom.
