Walt Disney Company President Robert Iger selected to become next
Disney CEO
The Walt Disney Company Board of Directors announced today that it
had selected Robert Iger to succeed Michael Eisner as CEO.
Eisner had announced last year that he would retire in the fall of
2006, but today's announcement made clear that he would step down a
year earlier on September 30 of 2005.
The Walt Disney Company's board of directors had announced that it
would look at both internal and external candidates for the CEO position
to replace Eisner. Eisner has long advocated the selection of Iger,
president of the Walt Disney company.
It was revealed on Friday that online auction site eBay CEO Meg Whitman
was an external candidate interviewed by the Disney board of directors,
but Whitman declined to continue as a candidate.
The Disney board of directors voted unanimously on selecting Iger as
CEO after meeting on Saturday night. Iger will take up CEO duties effective
October 1 of this year.
