Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room reopens at Disneyland
The Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland reopened Saturday,
March 12 after months of refurbishment. The Adventureland attraction
features singing Audio-Animatronic birds, flowers, and tiki gods in
a musical revue of Polynesian-themed tunes.
After months of intense refurbishment to clean up the aging attraction,
the Enchanted Tiki Room is ready to entertain Disneyland guests with
the flavors of Polynesia, just in time for the start of Disneyland's
50th anniversary celebration, "The Happiest Celebration
on Earth."
The Enchanted Tiki Room refurb began in the middle of 2004 and brought
the attraction (among other things) new thatching on its roof, a new
sign, and dramatically cleaned up Audio-Animatronics, lighting, and
fountains. Through years of neglect, many features of the attraction
became broken, faded, or worn out; the rehab cleaned up the attraction
to allow it to look as new as ever.
The Enchanted Tiki Room was the first attraction in the world to feature
Audio-Animatronics when it opened at Disneyland in 1963. It was originally
intended to be a restaurant with the tiki birds, flowers, and gods as
entertainment, but the concept changed to feature the Audio-Animatronics
prominently in a sit-down show.
