75 Mickey Mouse statues on display at Disney's California Adventure
at Disneyland Resort
Seventy-five life-size Mickey Mouse statues are currently on display
at Disney's California Adventure park at the Disneyland Resort in California.
The statues were first unveiled by Mickey and Michael Eisner on Mickey's
75 th Anniversary -- November 18, 2003 at Walt Disney World Resort,
and will be on display at the Disneyland Resort through February 22,
2005.
Appropriately deemed Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations,
the Mickey statues were designed by Disney legends, artists, actors,
athletes and performing artists who lent creative talent or simply creative
inspiration that resulted in 75 uniquely designed, 700-pound, 6-foot-tall
Mickey statues.
Some of Mickey's biggest fans, who happen to be some of the world's
biggest celebrities, including Raven (who personally painted her statue),
Elton John, John Travolta, Ellen DeGeneres, Tony Hawk, Tom Hanks, Ben
Affleck, Jamie Lee Curtis and Annette Funicello. Famous artists like
Gary Baseman and Wyland are also are among those who participated.
After leaving the Disneyland Resort, the statues will travel to Washington
D.C. and then to New York City (details to be announced) to be auctioned
Sotheby's to raise money for the charity of each individual artist's
choice.
