Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom update: Cinderella Castle gets gold overlay for Disneyland's 50th

Walt Disney World will be celebrating Disneyland's 50th birthday along with the rest of the Disney resorts and theme parks, and part of the celebration includes dressing up Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom with an overlay of gold decorations.

In order to prepare for the celebration that begins May 5, the Magic Kingdom has already started the Cinderella Castle gold overlay.

The turrets and spires of Cinderella Castle will feature sparkling new gold and silver netting, and gold swags will cover other parts of the Magic Kingdom landmark.

Here are some Magic Kingdom Cinderella Castle photos of the new decorations going up to celebrate Disneyland's 50th birthday, called "The Happiest Homecoming on Earth."

In other news, it was recently announced that singer LeAnn Rimes has already recorded the theme anthem for Disneyland's 50th anniversary: "Remember When." The song will be used in promotional materials for the celebration, as well as in the new fireworks spectacular at Disneyland, "Remember ... Dreams Come True."

Disneyland's 50th birthday kicks off on May 5, 2005.
