The Disneyland Report > Disney News > Disneyland Paris to invest 240 million Euro for new rides, including a Tower of Terror Disney NewsDisneyland Paris to invest 240 million Euro for new rides, including a Tower of TerrorA Buzz Lightyear attraction and another Tower of Terror experience are in line to be constructed at Disneyland Park Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park, according to a recent announcement. The Disneyland Paris Resort will invest 240 million Euro to build two new major attractions and a new themed area. Buzz Lightyear's Laser Blast is expected to open at Disneyland Park in 2006. The new attraction features characters from Pixar's Toy Story films. Guests will help Buzz Lightyear defeat the evil Emperor Zurg and prevent the theft of the galaxy's stock of batteries. Participants will board two-seater ride vehicles, each of which will be fitted with dual laser pistols and direction controls, making it possible for guests to spin their spaceships around a full 360 degrees. To defend the universe, guests then go blasting at various targets placed throughout the different scenes through the ride. Each successful hit will not only accumulate points on vehicle dashboards, but will also generate special effects through the use of sound, light, and movement. Set to become something of a standard in Disney Theme Park entertainment, the popularity of this series of Buzz Lightyear attractions appears to lie in the development of a storyline concerning an unforgettable character, the ownership of an experience which guests create themselves, and the desire to become a top scorer. Already a major hit at Disney MGM Studios at Walt Disney World and Disney's California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, and soon to thrill guests at Tokyo DisneySea, the newest Tower of Terror will open in 2008 at Walt Disney Studios Park. The new Tower of Terror will be placed on Production Courtyard and feature an atmospheric lobby and library and a thrilling 13-story, faster-than-gravity fall in an old elevator. Walt Disney Studios Park will also receive a new themed "land" called Toon Studios. This new area will offer guests a look at the backstage activity of their favorite Disney characters. The area will be where the cartoon characters make their films, a new concept in Disney theme park history. It will be placed along Animation Courtyard, between Flying Carpets Over Agrabah and Art of Disney Animation. Guests will be able to meet their favorite toon heroes and also explore their professional universe and participate in some of the most unforgettable scenes from their box office hits. Toon Studios will open in 2007 and offer more family-friendly fare
