Disneyland's third park?

After years of negotiations, Disney has finally purchased a large stawberry farm near the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. This large parcel of land is enough space for a third theme park for the Disneyland Resort.

Rumors have been running rampant on what Disney plans to build on that large patch of land. For a short time, Disney Imagineering had a website that detailed plans for the Disneyland Resort's third gate. It showed exactly where the new third park would be and photos of the areas around the Disneyland Resort being spruced up as a result of the Disney parks. The short-lived website also offered ride ideas such as Winnie the Pooh's Hunny Hunt or Dinosaur from Disney's Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort, but it did not elaborate on the overall theme for the new park. The website has since closed and was replaced by another owner.

Today, talks of a third park at the Disneyland Resort are on the backburner as Disney tries to figure out what to do to make Disney's California Adventure, the Disneyland Resort's second park, a success - or at least not a flop. Most of the focus is now how to attract more visitors to the troubled park; that, in addition to maintaining the aging Disneyland itself should prevent a third park from being discussed for some time to come.

Still, rumors have gone around saying that the Disneyland Resort's third gate will be a water park, and that would put Disney into the water park business - a competitive move since Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain both have water parks in addition to their regular theme parks. Disney is also familiar with having water parks on property, as the Walt Disney World Resort at one time had three water parks running: River Country, Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach. River Country is no longer open, but Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach continue to thrill guests with their popular waterslides.

Will the Disneyland Resort ever have a third gate? It's safe to say probably yes; it's just a matter of time.
